Preparation

  1. 1

Peel and dice the potatoes, then boil in salted water for 15-20 minutes until tender.

  2. 2

Drain the potatoes and mash thoroughly with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and fluffy.

  3. 3

In a deep pan, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat.

  4. 4

Add finely chopped onion and diced carrots to the beef and cook for 5 minutes until vegetables begin to soften.

  5. 5

Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth, then simmer gently for 15 minutes until thickened.

  6. 6

Stir in the frozen green peas and cook for 2 more minutes, then transfer the meat filling into an ovenproof baking dish.

  7. 7

Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat, rough up the surface with a fork, and top with grated cheddar.

  8. 8

Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 25-30 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
